About the exhibition
With the exhibition »Wir sind Demokratie« by the members the Deutscher Künstlerbund takes on its responsibility as one of Germany's most traditional and recognized artists' associations to counteract the threat to our liberal democratic society.
Democracy is the foundation of our society, based on principles such as freedom, equality, the rule of law, and respect for human rights. At a time when authoritarian tendencies are increasing in Germany and worldwide, democracy remains indispensable for protecting our freedom, safeguarding human rights, and promoting a just and peaceful coexistence. In recent years, democracy as a political system has suffered significant setbacks worldwide. Only through democratic participation and transparency can we ensure that all voices are heard and abuse of power is prevented.
The members' exhibition presents works that explore the theme of democracy from various perspectives. The exhibited works address aspects such as freedom of speech, equality, gender equality, tolerance, participation, and social justice. Through the exhibition, the importance of democracy as a fundamental achievement is emphasized, while also reflecting on the challenges and threats it faces today.
