Exhibition in the Project Space
ï inges idee
(H. Hemmert, A. Lieber, Th. Schmidt, G. Zey)

From March 7 to May 9, 2008 the Deutscher Künstlerbund will present an exhibition of the artist group »inges idee« in its Project Space. Since 1993, the artists Hans Hemmert, Axel Lieber, Thomas A. Schmidt and Georg Zey have been working together under this name at international projects and public art competitions.

Their joint approach is strongly surrealistic: the unintentional play of thoughts leads to continuous experiments with materials, techniques, formal principles and their symbolic impact. The objects are freed from their significance and lead to the reorganization of contexts. The artists are inspired by everyday life. With subtle visual wit and the ambiguity of combined objects, they offer the viewer direct access to the objects by constructing a plain image.

They describe their handling of public space as follows: »Public space has furnishings, an alphabet of objects ranging from the floor covering through the trees and benches to the lighting, traffic routes, and manhole covers. The entire repertoire consists of linguistic signs, of words. When we enter a competition, the ground plan of a street with all its infrastructure is like a kind of text to be interpreted and supplemented with our own words. To this end, we use the technique of language confusion, in which the words are shaken up and re-ordered in a new text.«

In the Project Space of the Deutscher Künstlerbund »inges idee« presents a selection of different projects from the last years. At the core of the exhibition there are desks arranged in cascades displaying diverse models and objects of the many ideas that have accumulated over the years – materials of their seemingly chaotic design method. These are completed by models of various realised projects like »Elstern«, a project that was developed in 1999 for the »Landeszentralbank Berlin und Brandenburg« in Potsdam or the »Monument Place Jean Jaurès« that was realized 2007 in Paris.
