Funded by the Bundeskulturstiftung, five institutions – K21 Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, ZKM Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie, Karlsruhe, Kunsthalle Bremen, Museum der bildenden Künste, Leipzig and Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus, Munich – took on securing inventory and restoration. Simultaneously, an exhibition in the five participating institutions took place. The DVD-study edition that includes 59 video works from 1963 – 2004 and is reserved for libraries, universities and institutions, serves the spreading and imparting of video art.

In the Project Space of the Deutscher Künstlerbund the DVD-study-edition is made accessible to the public. Additionally, »40jahrevideokunst.de – was fehlt« provides the opportunity to complete the given selection - which was compiled by a jury. It is necessarily selective and subjective and cannot meet the requirements of completeness and balance.

Due to persistent interest, the exhibition has been extended until the 21st of October.
